Crazy busy ...

I am not complaining at all --- we have just been so busy this summer. We have had a ton of fun in the meantime, and so it was all worth it. I am not making excuses for my posts being, well, non-personal --- but I will try to do better from now.

So, if you remember correctly, last summer I was basically pregnant and miserable for the first two/thirds of the summer. I pretty much prayed the entire summer away so that I would be done being pregnant. For those who don't know --- it's hard being pregnant in the summer with a two year old wanting to do everything!!! Then, when I had Lauren I was a recluse just loving on her and getting used to being a mommy of two.

By the time I woke up from that daze, summer was over and we had done basically nothing. I was so angry all winter that I felt like I was jipped out of summer --- I whined alot about it truly!

So, this summer it was ON!

Not intentionally, but alot of things came up this summer. My good friend got married in Hilton Head.... and so we went down for that. Long drive, but an amazing time with my amazing friends. We had so much fun. We learned Madelyn was a fish in a former life, and has NO fear of water!

Then, we took our trek to our normal summertime hang - Geneva on the Lake. I was there for a few weeks, and got to meet up with Heather a few times. It was so nice to spend time with another mommy with a baby Lauren's age. Rhiannon was so sweet to MJ and I just had a ball with them!

My in laws were then gracious enough to invite us to go to Myrtle Beach with them, and we gladly took them up on it. We had an amazing condo overlooking the beautiful waters, and we had an incredible time. Very relaxing, and laid back --- just like we like it!

Then I went back to the lake for a few days --- it wasn't long enough, but it was nice to have the closure of going back to pack up the cottage. I miss the cottage so much in the winter, if it had a furnace I would probably go there and just sit --- because there is nothing to do there in the winter at all! I would still love it. I just like being there!

We are getting ready to close the summer out by heading up to Erie to spend some time with some buds who have babes the same age as MJ. We have known each other (most) since they were born and so we try to travel each year to visit. We are from all over the states and Canada, so its not possible for everyone to make it every year, but we sure try. I didn't get to go last year because Lauren was only a few days old when they left to meet up in Niagara Falls. This year it is in my homestate -- so you couldn't keep me away. Even though I will only be there for a day or two, it will still be nice to catch up with my buds and see all the kids together. I love that part!

Then, it will be getting ready for the school year to start!

So, here are some kid recaps :

Lauren is walking, wobbly but walking --- she says daddy and only daddy. She loves her mama but just WILL NOT say it! She is such a delight, has a wonderful personality and is really cute with her big ol' gap between her two front teeth! I later I will be cursing it, but for now it is just adorable !!!

Madelyn is FINALLY potty trained --- PRAISE JESUS!!! She is just as bubbly, social and talkative as ever. She never stops from the time she wakes until she is sleeping in her bed... talking, talking, talking. She loves everyone --- and just wants to be everyone's best friend! So funny!

Mike has finally moved to a schedule that allows him off Friday and Saturday each week --- so we finally HAVE A LIFE! We can go to weddings, go out and have a drink on a Friday night--- we couldn't be more excited about this! We can go catch a movie and get a sitter (not a school night). Wow, I better make a list of things we are going to do !

As for me, I am getting ready to sub again in the Fall. Hopeful that something long term will come my way early on, and I can complete a school year in one classroom. I am still teaching computers at the community college -- and I really love that. Also, I am supposed to go back to coaching the dance team this fall. My sister and I coached together for two years until I started having kids. Then she did it by herself. Now that she has moved to Texas, they needed a coach and asked me. Well, I am not sure ASKED is the right word to use. I am not sure how I feel about that yet. I guess it depends on how that falls in with everything else I have going on--- it will either be awesome or a pain. Not sure about that yet.

So I will post some pics from Erie after the weekend is over. Sorry for the catch up post. I hate that I had to do that... but I also don't want a blog just of pictures and no stories!

This summer has been just an incredible whirl-wind so far---- a good one, but busy to say the least. I am not complaining, because I have had so much fun, got to hang with my closest buds on the beaches of Hilton Head, finally got to meet Heather at the lake, hung out with my mom, sis and Aunt Candy (or the Candy Girl as MJ calls her), and now on my way to Myrtle Beach!!!

WOW!

I have pictures upon pictures to post-- but for now I have to go pack and clean the house so I don't come home to craziness!

ROFLMAO!

I can't believe I forgot to blog this the other day - OK, a little background first. So, I have a lot of scrap people that I talk to on a pretty regular basis and there are some that I am closer to than others. One that I am becoming pretty tight with is a pal I met through an online message board for mom's with babies born in the month of July. She and I both shared the digital scrapbook addiction, and thus began talking. I stopped frequenting that website, and she noticed I was gone. She asked where I was, and a girl who is from my area let me know. I sent her an email, and we have been chatting it up almost daily since then.

The reason for the background is to tell you that she and I instant message often when we are scrapping, sending each other photobucket links to say "What do you think?" and get some feedback.

She was checking out my blog one day last week, and she was looking at the layouts from our snow day. She pointed out to me that in the Layout called "Playing with daddy" the ends of the y's look like little peters! Now, everytime I see that layout... I just think of little peters! ROFLMAO!

You want to go look now don't you? What is the most funny is that is SOOOOO my sense of humor, and I am not sure she even knew that when she sent me the IM! Hysterical.

I meet the best people online, I swear!

One sided friendships

I just want to put this down in writing - I am through with one sided friendships. I am not sure what it is in my personality that makes me this way, but I feel obliged to nurture a relationship. I value my friends, and the memories that go along with them. So, why is it that it seems so often I am the only one doing this?

Just for the record, I am not going to nurture and value a friendshiop on my own. I am so tired of placing my trust and value in a friendship when the other person doesn't. If we are acquaintances, thats fine too. But then say that, don't 'neeeeed me' when you need me and then disappear when you don't.

I want to say here that I am not the type of friend that needs to talk to you daily, weekly or even monthly. My closest friends know that. I like to catch up with my friends when they have time. Just like me, they have jobs and families and are very busy at times. But I want to know what is going on with you, not just continually call, email and text you to get no response whatsoever. On a side note, I realize that people go through times that they are super-ridiculously busy, or have something new in their lives and need time. I am not talking about that either, I understand that. I do that too!

So, if I call and leave you a message, at least text me back and say that you got it, and that you'll call me when you get a minute. Send me a card at Christmas!

Let me just put it this way; I am no longer going out of my way for people who wouldn't go out of their way for me. I am not calling if you don't return phone calls. I am not going to nurture our friendship for the sake of the friendship. I have enough friends that I don't need to do that.

I had a friend, who I thought was one of my best friends, ost because I didn't continue to track her butt down, call her, email her, text her every few months. Sadly, when I stopped, so did our friendship. She has seen Madelyn once, and probably doesn't even know I have Lauren. It disgusts me because she continued a sharade of a 'best friend' for so long, that I feel a loss. Unfortunately, I don't think she does.

So, at this point, I have to value my pride and my time more than the friendships. If these people truly cared about me, they would be in my life.

Nuff said about that!

Purse Party Part Deux

IT HAS BEEN SO SCHEDULED THAT ON SUNDAY, THE 17TH OF FEBRUARY AT 2PM, A PURSE PARTY WILL TAKE PLACE AT DAWN's.

I couldn't be more stoked, and it only took, what? THREE MONTHS! Well, I got caught up in Christmas, the holidays, the girls and all that jazz.

Anyway, this is really going to be nice because my sister in law will also be hosting a SPA party during that time too. So you can buy purses, eat, socialize, get a facial and all in one party. It would be a blast, and I couldn't be more excited!

Recap - catch up - fly by post

I gave up ya'll. I just submitted my layout for the contest. I didn't even wait for any feedback. I couldn't take it any longer. I was up all night (as anticipated), thinking about what I could do. But it is almost like a test, if you haggle over a question and change it. I was probably the one you originally thought.

So, it is official submitted, and now I am wishing that I wouldn't have done that. But, alas, it is done.

EEEK!

Oh well, what is done, is done :)

I am teaching for the Job Corps for the next week or so. That should be fun.. I can not wait (no sarcasm... I mean it.) I will be on my ol' stompin ground down at the Allegheny Campus. Oh, the irony!

Anywho, talk soon. I am off to be with an old friend who lost her dad this week. It makes me think about how fragile life really is, and that I, too, will someday be in her shoes. This friend and I grew up together, and we lost touch for a long time. I am glad to say, we met up again while I was subbing at her son's school! It is just strange how people come in and out of our lives, and then reappear at certain times.

Ok, enough sad stuff! I am off. To lighten the mood, here is a funny video of Mike playing with Lauren the other night. Her giggle is so adorable and contagious.

Aero and Smarties from Canada

Recently, I received my 'secret santa' present from my pal in Canada. Every year my May mommy buds do an exchange and while typically it is 'all about the kids', for Christmas the mommies exchange presents and we put an ornament or small toy in the package for the kids.

I always get the most amazing gifts in this exchange! I also put alot of thought into the gift I send for this exchange. This year I had Ally.

Ally is one of the mommies who came for the outlet shopping-fest in November, which was AWESOME! It was the first time we had met in person! I had a blast shopping for her. She is so hardworking! She is a trauma-care nurse in her hometown and she puts in some LONG ASS hours. She is a great mommy and wife, and still finds time to be a great friend to alot of people!

I got her some 'time for her' stuff including a creme brulee set with cookbook, torch and ramacans. A few 'ahem' cocktail mixes! I got her son a toy for the bathtub! I hope she loves them! It just so happens that Ally is from Canada. So, I was praying it would get there on time.

My Secret Santa was also from Canada! Her name is Erin, and she is also a nurse, hardworker, great mommy, and so funny! She sent me an amazing gift! A super, soft blanket that is creme colored and is quite possibly the softest thing I have ever felt, a Christmas candle that smells like a vanilla wafer, a book by my favorite author Jodi Picoult called "Keeping Faith" and two board books for Maddie. Here is the thing, she stuck some candy in the bottom of the box for me.

Ok, I didn't realize how different things were between the US and CANADA! I mean we do share a border, various lakes and rivers, the Falls and other things too! But how is it that we do not have these candies here in the States!

Smarties here in the States are little sweet/sour pill-type candies sold in little skinny packs with plastic twisted at its edges. Smarties in Canada are similar to M&M's and are made by NESTLE! What the piss! They are good, thats for sure! Different than M&M's but still yummy just the same.

BUT I AM AMAZED BY THE FOLLOWING REVELATION! We do not have the other type of candy that Erin put in my bag here ! They are called Aero's. OMG, talk about a little piece of frothy chocolate heaven ! It tastes SO good, and it is similar to chocolate puffed with air. WOW!

Seriously, I am considering writing a congressman about why we do not have this in the States. I mean, what is up! Nestle makes both of these so why do we not have it! I am pissed, and am thinking I will have to send money to Erin so she can send me an entire bag of these. I could stick them in my freezer and take them out only in case of emergency!

Friends

Everyone has them, everyone wants them, everyone needs them! They are your friends! I happen to be so lucky to have a group of women who are my friends and they are just incredible.

The crew I have went through our last three years of college together.
Every SINGLE day, every SINGLE project, every single minute I was in class... I was with my crew!

We went through everything together: every psycho teacher, every ridiculous project, every lesson plan, every nail biting test (especially Briscoe!), the dreaded, blasted PRAXIS exams, student teaching, successes, failures, babies, weddings and then, who can forget, graduation !

Well since graduation, we rarely get to see each other. Most of us talk on the phone, or try to, at least once a week or two. We do try to get together more often, but it is hard with such a large group of people. Not to mention, we all have VASTLY different lives. Some of us have been married for awhile, some are just now newly engaged (YEA EMILY and JASON!), some of us had babies in college (whoops!), some of us have GRANDCHILDREN! Some are subbing, some are working two and three jobs, some are contracted with schools, some are in grad school.

We are so diverse, yet what we share is so powerful and grand. Having gone through such major events with one another has connected us on such a deep scale it is hard to imagine life without them. Although we don't see each other as much as we would like, none is more than a phone call or desperation cry away.

We just love each other and cherish the time we spend together. We know how lucky we are to have such a large group of closeness, and we know its rare so we hold it with both hands very, very tightly.

Since college for us ended I, for one, have felt some growing pains being seperated from this group. It was such a strong force in my life for three years, and now that we are AS TOGETHER as we once we were, I definitely felt a loss of sorts. But I have grown into the now, and that makes me so grateful for the times we do have.

And so, to my Ladies, I raise my glass to you and thank you for being such an awesome group of women! I love and admire each of you for different things: loyalty, devotion, committment, energy, sassyness (is that a word?), humor, realism, dedication and most of all faith.

Faith in many things, but mostly each other. Merry Christmas CCAC - - EYE YOU PEE !

I got RAK'd

Yesterday, I received a private message in my inbox at go digital scrapbooking (which rarely happens), so I logged on to see what was up.

I was so excited, elated and just plain tickled to find I had been RAK'd by Crops!

She is on Kim B's Creative team (lucky devil that she is!) and Kim B gave her creative team a little Christmas gift in the way of an INCREDIBLE kit called Old Festive Cheer! So, to pass along the merriness (yea, it is a word!) the creative team were selecting people to receive it as a RAK!

How awesome, and I got selected! I made a page today using the kit, and an alphabet from the Christmas Around the World girls (I tried to find who it was from, but all I can tell you is that I downloaded it from Hummie's World).

I shared the layout I did with anyone and everyone who I would think of who cared! I just love this kit, and everything that Kim B. does. She just embodies a presence (even over the net) that makes you want to have fun! The bond that she has with her internet friends all over the world is amazing, and I am just so inspired by her!

Maybe it's Christmas that is making me all sappy!

Oldie but a goodie!

I received this email from a friend at the exact right time. I am trying so hard to prioritize things in my life right now. This puts alot into perspective.

-A mayonaise jar and two cups of coffee

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car. The sand is everything else---the small stuff.

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled and said, "I'm glad you asked." The coffee just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

Fond holiday memories from my childhood.......

I was chatting with a childhood friend on myspace for a few minutes today, but I have to say that anytime I talk with old buds, I am flooded with memories of them.

So, today, I was remembering the very elaborate haunted houses we used stage in Faye's parents basement. I was only able to do this a few years, but her and her brother did it every year religiously, if I remember correctly.

When I say elaborate, I mean various rooms were created using string and sheets, costumes were made and with the haunted house was equipped with strobe lighting and us forcing people to put their hands in bowls with jello and bouncy balls and telling them they were eyeballs, LOL!

I can only imagine the clean up required when all was said and done !

Another memory that has been lingering close lately was the things we did with the girl scouts. I remember at Christmas time, we used to go carolling at nursing homes. I really can't wait for my girls to be old enough to do this kind of thing. I remember how good it felt afterwards, and seeing the little old ladies and making them smile.

A blog that has my undivided attention...

I hadn't realized that a good friend (originally from good ol' Pee Aye), had a blog until today. I do think I knew at one point, but you know how links get 'lost' in your 'favorites' amongst some ridiculous websites you swore would become a daily visit ! Yea, I am pretty sure that is what happened.

But today she shared with me her blog, and I read, and read, and read..... and so on, and so forth.

All I could think was WOW! Not that I didn't think she was smart before, because of course she is smart... she is MY friend after all, but she really has a gift of thinking things through and writing in a way that has captured my attention. Probably because I think like she does, and vice versa.

Today's blog entitled, "Spendthrift" really has my mind going. I am not going to give you a run down, read it. But my thoughts are turning inward. I am so guilty of this mindless spending! I have always prided myself on NOT being a 'keeping up with the Joneses' kind of person, but in personal reflection, I am just that.

I often find myself in daydreams of a bigger house and more 'things'; things that are probably similar to things I already own, I just want new ones or different ones. Things are really important.

Similarly but no doubt less evil, I desperately desire MORE ROOM in my current home. It is for mere sanity, this I promise. But I so long to entertain people in my house, and we just don't have a lot of space. I love my house, I just want it to be bigger so that I can't enjoy it more with friends and family inside!

And on a side note, her blog makes my blog look ridiculous, selfish and very unintellectual! I hope that I gave her a chuckle while reading my blog !

A quickie...

Last night was fabulous! I miss these girls so much ! It is so hard to go from seeing them everyday (or nearly everyday) and having everything in the world in common, to seeing them seldom and growing a little seperately from the group.


That is not true with everyone, and mostly these girls will talk about anything (just like me)! I didnt take alot of pictures (sooo sorry everyone!). But I will see if I can scrounge one of all of us from a previous get together!

Not that I care AT ALL, but I wish those of you who read this blog would at least leave a little hello, how are you comment or something behind. I find it a little un-nerving to think that strangers are reading my ramblings and not even saying so much as 'hey your daughters cute' or 'you are kind of funny sometimes'. My regular visitors, or my friends in real life comment to me personally on things I have posted or pictures, scrapbook pages and whatnot. But if I don't know you, PLEASE stay but leave me a little note! I know that some people whom I don't know personally are reading or at least visiting here and my Myspace. Believe me, I don't mind at all. I just wish they would speak. I am a very friendly person... truly!

Now that THAT is out, moving on to lighter subjects.

We brought the Jumperoo down from upstairs this past weekend, and I have been putting her in it a few minutes a day. Today was the first day she jumped for real, but only once... then her head started boinging around and she was more interested in eating and sucking on the seat. We think she is getting a tooth because it is hella drool-central over here!
This is Maddie's crazy curly hair after her bath tonite. So crazy, but I love it. I am seriously never cutting her hair because I am afraid the curly hair will go away!

Speaking of.... I get another night away. Seriously, some of you reading this will be like...say what? But this never happens... Tuesday was the first night I was ever away from my kids. But I will be going tomorrow night to the Seafood Buffet at Seven Springs with my girls from college ! Oh, I can't wait. This crew is a rowdy bunch (well, I am probably one of the rowdiest, but I digress!). Should be a blast! Will post pics when I get back, of course.

Oh, I forgot. I attempted cereal with the Little One tonite. Interesting attempt.... here is the look she gave me. I guess we will be waiting a little longer on that !

Wow, I had the most amazing time with my buds in Grove City. We shopped, we laughed, we ate, we swam ... we just did what we do !


My friend A, K, and A who I met on an IV message board designated for women who were due the month of May 2005! There are more of us, but those were the ones at this particular M&G. It was just a last minute planned get-together that couldn't have gone ANY better. I swear these women were brought to me by some higher being just to say... you are not the only one like you out there!


These women are my kin, no matter our blood lines!


I had so much fun! I wish it could have last another day or two, but that is just impossible with kids, and careers and husbands and all the responsibilities that go along with all of those jobs.

I needed the laughs we had staying up late, giggling at ridiculousness! I needed the relaxation of the hottub... and of course, the headstart on Christmas shopping.

What I didn't realize I needed was to be measured for a bra! Hello, talk about wearing the wrong shit for awhile! Da-yum! I was way off. So they up'd my size.




Just kidding, thats not really my bra size... but pretty damn close!


So we bid our farewells to our Canadian buds... who we had a blast with comparing things there to things here! One thing is for sure, Canadian's like Heinz ketchup so that makes them alright in my book! They made it past border patrol without having to pay tax for their goods, so that was a bonus. Happy they made it home safe and sound! I really hope they make the trek again, it was so fun!


We took A to the airport but only after a quick trip through downtown so she could see the sights!


After that, Kelly and I were not ready to go home to the kids just yet. We wanted to savor that 'aloneness' ... 'eating a warm meal' ... no whining time. So we sat at Johnny Carino's in Robinson for about two hours (at least) just enjoying some Italian cuisine (it was awesome by the way!)


It was a amazing little excursion... so fun! I think last minute trips are the funnest, because there is no time to over plan, no pressure! Very relaxing!
